Architects in a New Land: Franny and Husband's Prenup Experience

How Two Architects Created a Prenup that was Family Approved and They Felt Great About

Franny and her husband, both from Venezuela and both 28-year-old architects, recently relocated to New Jersey. Upon arrival, they knew they wanted a prenup but had no prior knowledge of prenups in the States. They hoped to gain a thorough understanding of the process and to efficiently secure a prenup before getting married.

“We came from not knowing anything to learning everything through [HelloPrenup], but it was pretty friendly, so I would totally recommend it to whoever is getting married, anyone.” —Franny, 28, Architect, New Jersey

A Family Affair

Franny’s family was the first to bring up the idea of prenups to her. It was a matter of having a conversation with her husband to make sure they were on the same page. Based on HelloPrenup’s private study, approximately 13% of couples who opt for a prenuptial agreement did so because their families recommended it.

“Actually, it was a recommendation from my parents. They did it, and most of my family do it, so it was a suggestion. And I talked with my partner, and he was fine with it. He actually said that it was something that he would propose as well, so that’s why we did this,” Franny mentions.

Starting the Prenup Journey

With the recommendation of family and an upcoming wedding, Franny and her partner began their journey searching for the perfect prenup tool. However, their legal journey became difficult due to their unfamiliarity with prenuptial agreements in New Jersey.

“… we didn’t know how the process was. Since we’re not from here, we obviously know the process from back home [Venezuela], but here, we weren’t sure how would it work. We started doing research. We found lawyers were super expensive. And obviously, that was not something you’re looking for when you’re getting married,” Franny told us.

After talking to lawyers and deciding the cost was too much, Franny and her partner continued searching for affordable and quick ways to get a prenup. While researching for solutions, she saw HelloPrenup on SharkTank and it began their HelloPrenup journey.

“We were trying to find easy solutions, so then I don’t know how I ended up on the website… we both are huge fans of Shark Tank… I was like, ‘Hey, I found them [on] Shark Tank. They presented this.’ Then, we decided to give it a try,” Franny said.

A Seamless and Swift Prenup

Franny told us that it did not take long for her and her partner to start their process with HelloPrenup.

“I just logged in, created an account… and I think it sends him an email. And that’s it. I remember that we created the account one day, and then the next day was the day when we filled it out. And that’s it”, Franny mentioned.

Franny explained that the user-friendly platform offered them a structured process, gently guiding them through the creation of their agreement.

“I love that the website guides you for the entire process. Even until the notarized thing, we were like, ‘Okay, now we have the document. What are we going to do?’ And we did it as the website explains with the [notarization].”

Franny also appreciated the time it took to get the prenup completed. They were able to complete it within their desired time frame. HelloPrenup’s private study shows that 67% of couples who use HelloPrenup complete their agreement within 2 to 3 days.

Solution for an Unfamiliar Process

Franny found the straightforward and guided steps on HelloPrenup’s platform to be instrumental in easing her into an unfamiliar process.

“You just follow the steps. You don’t have to know anything before starting with it. It’s not like you need to have a pre-knowledge to start the process with [HelloPrenup],” Franny said.

Franny’s use of HelloPrenup demonstrates how easy creating a prenup can be, thanks to the guided questions and legal resources provided by HelloPrenup. Franny and her partner began the process with no prior knowledge of prenups in New Jersey. However, after seeing HelloPrenup on a Shark Tank episode, it led them to the HelloPrenup website, and in just a matter of time, they successfully completed their prenup together. Everything Franny and her partner needed to know about New Jersey prenups, they learned through their experience with HelloPrenup. Franny and her partner’s experience serves as a testament to the fact that, even if you’re unfamiliar with prenups, there are accessible and affordable solutions that simplify the process and make it easy to understand.

Key Takeaways

Hey Fiance! As the CEO of HelloPrenup and a family law attorney, I’ve seen firsthand how crucial having your financial life in order is for any relationship.

More and more lovebirds are deciding to get prenups before saying “I do”, which demonstrates that folks are getting savvier about what their marriage means for their finances.

At HelloPrenup, we love helping educate engaged couples on how they can financially and legally prepare for a successful, long marriage.

Decisions backed up by knowledge are always the best, especially when you’re talking about something as big as your future finances. I truly believe that when partners know what’s on the table, they can make better choices for their unique situation and their relationship.

You can learn about prenups in many ways, like delving into case law, learning about your state’s divorce laws, or consulting with a lawyer about how those divorce laws could affect you. These are all super useful, but oftentimes are detached from real life stories of other couples who are similarly situated.  At HelloPrenup, we think relatable customer stories are a valuable way to explore your options – through real-life stories.

Case studies give you the low-down on how prenups work in real life. They show you how couples, all different in their own ways, go through the process of making their prenups. By sharing these stories with you, we want to help you understand prenups a bit better, giving you practical insights you might not get otherwise.

Happy planning!
